Shawny Metcalf / Creator and Editor in Chief

I guess it’s safe to say that writer Shawny Metcalf was a poet first and a writer second. Atlanta, Georgia native Shawny Metcalf discovered her love for poetry at an early age and began to study the works of Maya Angelou, Sistah Souljah, Lauryn Hill, and Assata Shakur for writing inspiration and techniques. After discovering that she could translate most of what she said in her poetry into discussion pieces Ms. Metcalf was able to begin to write pieces that were geared towards music  lovers and everyday life issues most young adults were currently facing. With her head in her books and her ear addicted to hip hop this writer is able to find inspiration for her honest and outgoing writing style from lyrical content from some of her favorite rappers such Jay-z , Kanye, and Drake. Shawny is currently the Editor in Chief of this website as well as an on air personality for 88.9 FM WCSU. She is also a full time student at Central State University and is expected to graduate in May 2010 with a B.A. in Communications. While she has done internships with such companies as the well respected Vibe Magazine and the ever growing Disturbing Tha Peace Records this southern bell has dreams of freelance writing and possibly becoming an A&R for a major recording label.

Stefanie Philpott is from Cleveland, OH. She’s a Junior at Central State University where she’s getting her degree in Communications/Broadcast Media. She thought she was going to be a cosmetologist, even went to school for it, but there were other plans for her.  Media was her first love, she just didn’t know it until she got to college. From pretending she was Free from 106&Park, to writing poetry whenever she felt a need to get something off of her chest.  She’s currently a field reporter for a campus television show titled “The Edge”, among many other things around campus.  One being, ‘Campus Connection’, which is a radio club that she is the President and Founder of. Kanye West and Sean Combs are very inspiring to her.  She feels like she can relate to them because the way that people judge their exterior, that’s how they judged her. But, regardless, they are still working toward what they want, and deserve. Her dreams are to hit every aspect of media possible.  But, she’d like to start with television first.  Whatever she does, she wants to impact people’s lives just like the people she watched/heard/or read about when she was growing up did for her.
